Ms Louise Adsett

I have worked as a midwife for the past 15 years across a variety of maternity settings, with my primary area of expertise being clinical practice within Birth Suite environments. My role has centred on providing safe, compassionate, and evidence-based care to women and their families throughout labour, birth, and the immediate postnatal period, while ensuring neonates transition safely following delivery. Working in high-acuity and complex clinical environments has strengthened my passion for protecting and supporting both mother and baby during the pregnancy and birth. I was drawn to PHPA due to growing concerns surrounding the direction of abortion legislation in Australia, particularly the implementation of abortion up to birth in all states and territories. As both a healthcare professional and a mother, I believe pregnancy involves two lives that are equally valuable and deserving of care and protection. I am deeply concerned about the increasing normalisation of the idea that abortion is simply healthcare, without adequate consideration of the ethical, societal, and generational impact this may have on women, families, and the future of our culture.
